Description: VTG Silverplated Copper Repousse Indonesian Balinese Metal Basket/Bowl This is a beautiful Vintage Silverplated Copper Repousse Indonesian Balinese Oval Metal Basket. The piece features intricately hand forged Balinese Deities and symbols intertwined with floral/plant sculpting. This basket is similar to the Indonesian Balinese Yogya Djokja Baskets which were produced around the turn of the 19th century in then Dutch Indonesia. Repoussé, derived from the French word meaning “pushed up,” involves hammering the metal from the back to form a raised design on the front. This technique is often used in conjunction with chasing, where the metal is worked from the front to refine the design and add details. This basket/bowl measures approximately 15" across by 7" wide by 3.5" high. It is in good vintage/antique condition with no dents and only minor wear associated with its age. It has a lovely, aged patina with some tarnish that could be polished up if so desired. This is a wonderful relic from a faraway place - both in distance and time - that would make a lovely addition to any eclectic and bohemian environment.
