Description: This is a genuine, original, vintage press release/kit from CBS Records, issued in Spring 1978. It covers a meeting between country music-Southern rock artist Charlie Daniels and President Jimmy Carter at The White House, at a reception for the Country Music Association's board of directors. The two were good friends, and Daniels had already performed at Carter's inauguration in January 1977. There was also a concert the evening of the White House meeting, at which Daniels and others (Tom T. Hall, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Larry Gatlin and more) performed. This kit contains a press release, two reprinted articles (from the Washington Post and The Tennessean) about the event, a cardboard stiffener, postmarked outer envelope and glossy 8-by-10 photo of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter and Charlie Daniels. This photo is curious for the rare depiction of Daniels in a tuxedo. The two articles were printed by CBS Records on legal-size paper, and have always been folded so they would fit in the envelope. Provenance: I am the original and only owner of this press kit, having received it when I was writing record reviews for my college newspaper, The Wesleyan Argus. The event took place on April 16, 1978 and the package was mailed and postmarked from Nashville on May 18, 1978. See photos for the envelope and postmark. I am cleaning house, and "the press kit box" must be emptied. Here is a page from President Carter's diary, mentioning the concert: https://www.jimmycarterlibrary.gov/sites/default/files/pdf_documents/assets/documents/diary/1978/d041778t.pdf
