Description: A vintage ladies watch box by Jaeger-Le Coultre offered by Snowdrift Antiques. In the early 1830s in Valle de Joux, Switzerland Antoine LeCoultre began making fine Swiss watches in his family’s barn. In 1833 he founded Jaeger-Coultre and was soon known for producing fine, luxury Swiss watched and clocks. They are still in business today, owned by Richemont of Switzerland. This Le Coultre watch box once contained a ladies wrist watch. My research leaves me confident it dates from the early 1940s to late 1950s. It is dark green leatherette (I don’t think it is leather) trimmed in gold. Two hinges on the back open smoothly to reveal a light yellow velvet base with a band collar. In the lid is the Le Coultre label, which states quite a list of achievements, including “THE SMALLEST WATCH IN THE WORLD”. This is the label that allows us to get at least a broad date range for its production. It is accompanied by a dark green, heavy cardboard outer box with the same print information on top. The actual hinged watch box is in excellent vintage condition. I would assume it has been protected in the cardboard outer box all of its life. To my eye, it is free of any rubs, scrapes or corner wear. The outer cardboard box has some corner and edge wear but is not split and is structurally sound. The watch box measures 4 38 inches by 3 ¼ by 1 ½. The outer cardboard box is slightly larger. This is a very nice vintage Le Coultre ladies watch box in excellent condition. Perfect for someone needing a box for their vintage Le Coultre watch.
