Description: Vintage British Poetry Books, Lot of 5 British Poets - early 20th Century Note: These are vintage (tho not necessarily antiquarian) books. They are intriguing poetical works of the early 20th century by British authors. They have stood the test of time - not just the words but the actual paper & covers too. They are conservatively rated as 'Good+'. These are not Mint/Collectors copies, more like reading/reference copies, or for just sitting pretty on your book shelf. None are ex-library. All flaws are noted in the 'Condition' section for each book. While some may have that old book smell there is no mildew/dank smell to any. Feel free to write with any questions, concerns or for more pics. I answer promptly. All books are mildly wiped down and dusted clean via air duster. All are from a smoke free // pet free home. All are just dying for a new home and to be read again! a) George Rostrevor Hamilton ~ The Soul of WitNote: I believe this to be a rarer 1925 printing by G.P. Putnam. I could find no other versions anywhere online, whereas the original/first version in 1924 by publisher W.Heinemann is plentiful. 1925 Hardcover Published by G.P. Putnam & Sons Condition: 'Good'Covers are slightly scuffed and the spine shows some fraying at the top & bottom. Spine is easily readable still. Interior has 2 minor flaws - after the first 2 blank pages, there shows some separation of the text body to the spine. That grouping of pages (signature) extends 6 more leaves to pg X where there is also the same kind of separation. Back inside hinge is not torn or loose. Overall, the spine is still sturdy elsewhere. Within is absolutely clean. Just a bit of sun-fade to the page edges. No dust jacket. ************************* b) John Milton ~ Minor Poems 1901 Hardcover Published by Norwood Press/Academy classics Condition: 'Good'Covers show mild corner bumps, along with a bit of fraying at the spine top & bottom. Cover title & spine lettering are still reasonably bright. Spine is solid/sturdy. Front inside hinge is separated and slightly ripped away from binding, tho still attached firmly. Interior issue is that the separation mentioned above has also meant that the first page of this high school textbook, with a picture of the poet Milton, has come loose and been lost. There are no other missing pages. The inside covers and back blank pages are filled with notes by previous owners. No other writing/markings on the text pages. No dust jacket. *************************c) Algernon Charles Swinburne ~ Poems circa 1919-25 Softcover/Leatherette Published by Boni & Liveright Condition: 'Good' Covers, are the flexible leatherette kind. They have some scuffs along the edges but are still quite sturdy, inside & out. Spine has a crease running down the middle. Interior is clean - no markings what-so-ever. Pages are very lightly sun faded to the edges. No dust jacket. *************************d) Robert Bridges ~ Poetical Works 1914 Hardcover Publisher - Oxford U. Press Condition: 'Very Good'Covers have a few small scuffs/dings but still very nice. Mild corner bumps. Spine top & bottom edges are kind of soft. Spine is solid/sturdy. Inside hinges are not torn or loose. No dust jacket. Interior very clean, tho pgs are a bit sun-faded. ************************* e) Modern British Poetry (Anthology) Editor Louise Untermeyer 1962 Hardcover Published by Harcourt, Brace & World Condition: Covers are lightly faded, small spot stain on front. Spine shows an easily readable title but publisher & editor are very faded. Inside hinges are untorn. Interior has an owners name on inside front cover and a few small check marks on one Table of Contents page. Otherwise very clean. ************************* * Free bonus to the buyer of this book lot: Any single issue of Poetry magazine you see in the last pic.
