Produced by the John Charles Company, out of Torrance, California (abbreviated "Calif." on the can). The cap and handle are both free and move as they should (they're not rusted on, not rusted in place). This can is EMPTY and DOES NOT SMELL with the cap on. With the cap off, you really have to stick your nose right up to the spout to smell anything at all. It's been sitting open to the elements here in North Texas under a carport for the better part of two months, letting it "air out". We don't see much rust in northeast Texas, but this can does have some rusty patina (see photos). It's not rusted through, but we still don't recommend using the can for anything besides decoration. The base looks identical to the top...surface rust only...with minor surface rust beginning on any scratches on the painted surfaces (see photos). NOTE: We are not a retail store...nor are we experts in vintage advertising.
