Offered for sale is a copy of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle--in its first edition, the first printing, of February 1906.* This copy is in good or very good condition. The yellow-green cloth is somewhat worn and discolored, but the binding and hinges are very firm. Excepting a period ownership inscription, the interior is free of underscores, annotations, &c. Some of the leaves were sloppily cut (by the owner or the binder--I don't know whether copies from this edition were sold cut or uncut), though the resultant damage was slight. The endpapers are somewhat foxed and soiled. This remains, at all events, a desirable copy. The book will be posted by USPS Media Mail. Copies were also printed for, and distributed by, Jungle Publishing in February 1906; I couldn't say whether copies from Jungle were issued before those retailed by Doubleday--though, obviously, the former are more collectible (and more expensive).
