Recorded at London’s notorious 100 Club, this live release is a worthy testament to the band’s characteristic doggedness complimenting a punch that obliterates tired clichés without hesitation. 25 songs squeezed into an hour-long+ workout give a persuasive hint that we are dealing with ditties often minimal in structure - and incorrigibly feral in terms of delivery. That said, there is little room for finesse here, and with good reason to. Guitar riffs are sharp and clumsy, Charlie Harper is doing his usual deranged charmer bit, and the rhythm section is so disjointed that it makes Motörhead sound like a precision-drilled prog collective. To top it all up, this career spanning set is loaded with indispensable numbers, including “I Live in a Car”, “Down on The Farm”, “Warhead” and “Tomorrow's Girls”. It is heartening to know that even after all the decades, these ragged, loose-limbed creations are all about pit-inducing, infectious stuff. “The Last Will and Testament of UK Subs” isn't subtle by any stretch of the imagination, but it hits its mark musically.
