Its the story it tells: Deutschland was a blockade-breaking German merchant submarine used during World War I. It was developed with private funds and operated by the North German Lloyd Line. She had a sister ship (Bremen) that was sunk (presumably) by British Navy enroute to the the US in May 1916 voyage. Deutschland arrived first and it captain was Paul Liebrecht König. This event was heavily published by the German Government and brought a lot of questions by the US Government. Following Deutschland, the Germans sent U-53 (caption: Hans Rose) to help protect these blockage-running merchant submarines and also did a surprise visit to US ports. After she departed she sank several ships containing contraband and material support for the British. Deutschland did two voyages to the US, the first in May 1916 and the second was in Nov 1916. In 1917 she was commissioned in the German Imperial Navy and renamed U-155.
