Description: Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine with crease to front flap. Third printing, Book-of-the-Month Club issue, which used the sheets of the third printing. The third trade printing and the BOMC issue were identical, except the third trade printing had a price on the jacket; this BOMC issue has an unpriced jacket. Afterword 1993. Photo of Toni Morrison on jacket back by Bert Andrews. A landmark book and one of the scarcest first books of the 1970s in any genre. This title has taken its place among other notable books that have been banned from public circulation by those too small-minded, myopic, or lazy to distinguish between excellence and prurience. A reasonable example of the Nobel Laureate's scarce first novel. Morrison was the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. The early editions likely had very small first printings. A beautiful copy.
