Description: The Complete Little Nemo - Winsor McCay A life of Imaginative Genius, by Alexander Braun. Taschen 2014 first edition, large format paperback, 144 pages with hundreds of illustrations, some of which are full-color reproductions of original newspaper comics. This is the first edition of Vol. 2 of a two-part set; it is in this volume that art historian and comics expert Alexander Braun places Winsor McCay's life and work within the cultural history of the American media and entertainment industry, and explores the artistic value of McCay's genius from a historical perspective. From Amazon's online review: "Meet Little Nemo, a diminutive hero of comic narrative, but one of the greatest dream voyagers of the 20th century. The master creation of Winsor McCay (1869–1934), restless sleeper Nemo inspired generations of artists with his weekly adventures from bed to Slumberland, a realm of colorful companions, psychedelic scenery, and thrilling escapades. Nemo’s creator, Winsor McCay, was a founding figure in the modern American entertainment industry, above all with his revolutionary comics, which set standards for panel layout and storytelling technique, timing and pacing, and architectural and other detail that left an inestimable influence on subsequent artists, including Robert Crumb and Federico Fellini... At once an adventure story, visual delight, and piece of cultural history, this publication is a tremendous monument to one of the most innovative pioneers - and one of the most intrepid explorers - of comic history." In good condition. Binding is strong and square with no loose pages. Interior is very good with no significant damage to any pages; there is minor damage as follows: corner folds at top of p. 101 and bottom of title page; some wear and tiny folds to page corners at beginning and end of book; fore edges slightly discolored and wrinkled on pp. 102-108; a 3/4 in. by 1 1/2 in. bare spot at middle of right edge of title page. Exterior is clean with a bit of wear/creasing at edges and corners, with rear corner folds; a small (1/4 in by 3/4 in) scrape at top left of front cover that created an indentation on inside front cover. This book is ex-libris, with stickers/markings/clear tape on the front bottom, bottom of spine/corners, and top of spine/corners. A gently used copy with a beautiful interior.
