Description: This is a stunning 19th century gilt brass mounted Moroccan leather despatch box made by Schlender & Edlinger. There is a center thick brass cartouche inscribed with the ladies name 'Anne', surmounted by a five point crown. The edges of the lid have brass mounts with ornate floral scroll motifs. Beautiful embossing and border patterns on all sides. The front has a brass lock face, unfortunately there is no key. The quality and crown clearly indicate a connection to European royalty or aristocracy. The box measures 11 inches wide, 8.75 inches deep and 4 inches high when closed. The interior is light blue in color, the interior lid is silk lined while the bottom has two compartments lined in similar color material. Nice presentation in good used condition. There are stains, rubs, signs of wear and use. The plate in the upper lid above lock is missing. Please review the photos to further assess condition. A unique and rare quality box ready to be used or displayed. Other items shown in photos are unrelated to the box and not included. Check out our other antique listings.
