Description: Russian Medal in Commemoration of the 120th Jubilee of Stalin's Birth, 1999 This is GUARANTEED ORIGINAL award from 1999, not a replica! The medal is in brass and lacquer; measures 35 mm wide. Its obverse shows a bas-relief portrait of Iosif (Joseph) Stalin with the typical Soviet industrial artwork as a backdrop. The raised inscription on the reverse reads “1878-1999. In Commemoration of 120th Anniversary of the Birth of I.V. Stalin”. The medal is in SUPERB condition. The details are practically pristine on both sides. There are no blemishes or significant tarnish. This medal is one of the so-called “alternative” awards issued by the Communist-run Congress of People’s Deputies of the USSR - legislative body of the Soviet Union that continued to operate for years after the Soviet Union's collapse! The “Permanent Presidium” elected Sazhi Umalatova as its chairwoman, and the medals issued by this organization were consequently called “Umalatovskie” or Umalatov’s medals. Naturally, these medals were never approved by the President of Russia and therefore never became a part of the official award system of modern Russia.
