Description: Original 1914 dated and signed photo of Arthur Hubesty Turner. Removed from his promotion docket file. Stamped with Headquarters time and date acceptance. Each Marine officer had to submit and sign a photo for advancement to the next grade/rank and this was his submission for the Captain's board. Turner figured prominently in the Battle of Belleau Wood in June 1918 with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. He was awarded two silver star citations, the French Legion of Honor, and was wounded at Soissons, losing a leg. He was recommended for the Medal of Honor. He went to serve as a Judge Advocate. There is a book written about him entitled “Chuie, The Major: The Story of Arthur H. Turner, a Hero at Belleau Wood and Soissons”. One of the only known photos of this Marine officer and this is the original. Auction is for the photo. Rest of the photos are for reference and found on open-source internet.
