Description: Here we have a very rare and beautiful historical Staffordshire plate commemorating the Revolutionary War General La Fayette upon his return to tour the United States in 1824 as the guest of President Monroe. Entitled "General La Fayette, Welcome to the Land of Liberty." Transferware, with heavily embossed and hand-painted floral border. We have lots of interesting transferware in our store, to which we add new inventory daily, and we're always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. If the eBay checkout fails to properly combine your orders, we will issue a refund for the difference between what you paid to ship items separately and the actual cost of the combined shipping, on the day that we ship your package. (We don't find out the actual cost of combined shipping until we purchase the shipping label.) Vintage: circa 1824 Maker/Marks: Staffordshire/no marks Approximate measurements: please see photos with rulers Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best -- please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. Very good condition, in particular for its age. One very old, so old that it has softened, chip along the rim, located at 9 o'clock. A few scattered rubs to the paint on the highest parts of the embossed border that may also be old softened chips -- impossible to tell when they are so soft. Light marks on the back side that could possibly be hairline cracks -- they can't be felt, and they don't go all the way through to the other side, so they are more than likely just surface marks -- but we can't be absolutely certain. One large rectangular spot on the back where a sticker or tape once held fast. It's not the least bit sticky, but there is a very light residue that can still be seen when the plate is held at just the right angle. Luckily, it's on the back. Wear to the transfer and paint, as clearly shown in the photos. A few scattered rubs, nothing major. Plate feels remarkably sturdy, solid and stable for its age. We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we'll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us. The Fine Print: We expect payment within 1 day of purchase. If you're waiting for other auctions to end so that you can combine shipping, shoot us a message to let us know. If you're unable to pay within terms, please reach out with your Plan B. Things happen. Especially these days. So just shoot us a message. We don't accept buyer-remorse returns but we will grant you the use of our description and photos so that you can re-ebay the item yourself. Although we don't accept buyer-remorse returns, reach out if you're unhappy with your purchase! If we messed up -- everybody does -- give us a chance to fix it. We promise it was unintentional, and we'll do what we can to make it right.
