The map illustrates ferry and commuter rail lines, along with elevated train lines, cable lines, and street car lines. Major landmarks shown include: Washington Square, Union Square, Bryant Square (now Bryant Park), Central Park, Grand Central Depot (predecessor to Grand Central Terminal), Ellis Island, Governor's Island, Bedloe's Island (Statue of Liberty), with the Brooklyn Bridge called "Suspension Bridge". There is verso text and images, including promotional information for the Broadway Central Hotel, the map's publisher; printed by Brooks Bank Note Co., a Boston lithography company. Issued folded in half vertically with six horizontal folds. Map size: 22 x 13-1/2 inches. Opened in 1870 as the Grand Central Hotel, the Broadway Central Hotel was once the largest and grandest hotel in New York City. In 1876, 8 baseball teams formed what became the National League of Major League Baseball at the Grand Central Hotel. Sadly, the hotel declined and by the 1960s, it was a welfare hotel. In 1973, the hotel suffered a partial collapse, resulting in its complete demolition.
