This particular hotel was built in 1937, to Art Deco style, thanks to a Mr Rowley. It is said to be one of the last free-standing such examples in Europe. During WWII, it was commandeered by the military to defend the vulnerable south coast, but afterwards became the largest Jewish Hotel in Europe, complete with its own synagogue. After many years as a religious meeting point, it was recently given a thorough and sympathetic renovation to restore it as one of Bournemouths most prestigious hotels.
