Pre-Washing 100% Cotton Fabric: Important Information If you choose to wash your 100% cotton fabric before starting a project, here's what you need to know: Fabric Shrinkage: Washing, drying, and/or ironing may cause shrinkage. Fraying: Exposed cut edges of woven fabric will fray when washed. To minimize fraying when pre-washing, you can: Hand wash and line dry. Serge or zigzag the cut edges before washing. Use a mesh laundry bag (like the ones used for delicate fabrics). Care Instructions: Detergents: Do not wash with harsh detergents or chemicals (like bleach). Color Bleeding: Wash each colored fabric separately to avoid color bleeding. Ironing: To press out wrinkles, mist fabric with water and use a clothes iron set to the cotton setting. If your iron has a steam option, you can use that instead. Use a gentle up and down motion, not a heavy dragging motion across the fabric. Starch: Clothes starch, used as recommended, can be used instead of water. REMEMBER: Once you wash the fabric, it is considered damaged goods and cannot be returned.
