They are commonly called Ice Plants. Even though they are cold hardy with a growing range of Zone 5 to 9b, the name comes from the small crystal ice-like scales that coat the leaves and sometimes buds and flower that give a shimmery frosted appearance from a distance. Delosperma hybridas are hybrids developed from crosses of the various species. The Orange Glow (TM PPAF) is a selection from the newly introduced Ocean Sunset series from Darwin Perennials, which boasts the largest flowers of any Delosperma, and has a high flower count per plant. Flowers are bright peach toned orange with neon pink tips. It provides a gorgeous pop of color in pots, and brings intense, vivid colors to rock gardens, borders, embankments and any other area where low growing, low maintenance cover is desired. Their needs are few and simple, requiring little more than porous, well draining soil and the full spectrum of light for most of the day. Like all Delosperma, Ocean Sunset TM is very drought tolerant once established. This is a tender succulent, so minor bruising and breakage from shipping and handling is normal, unavoidable and a normal part of the shipping process. Plants will recover quickly once they are put into place and undisturbed. This is an outdoor plant that will not typically survive indoors. This plant is protected by Patent.
