Description: Multiview Flowers of Hawaii HI UNP Unused Island Heritage Chrome Postcard Hibiscus - home to seven types of hibiscus that are endemic to the islands—the jazzy, vivid flower, in hues ranging from bright pink to white, has come to symbolize Hawaii, with the yellow hibiscus serving as the state’s flower. Plumeria trees are as ubiquitous in Hawaii as palms, dazzling eyes with their range of colors (from scarlet red to white with a buttery-yellow center)—and dazzling noses with their sweet, perfumed scent. Brought to the islands by a German botanist in 1860, they’re the bloom you pin behind your ear, or to make lei, Anthurium- Sleek, waxy, shaded in reds and pinks, and shaped like a heart: First arriving in Hawaii in 1889 when Hawaii’s Minister of Finance, Samuel Mills Damon, returned from England with a stem and planted it in his garden. Bird of Paradise - With its vibrant orange petals—and a touch of iris spiking through—the exoticism of the flower has become emblematic of the islands. Known as a “crane flower” in South Africa—where it originally hails from—the striking bloom bears similarities to the banana. Ginger plants in Hawaii are abundant with many variations and flowers growing in the wild or in gardens. Popular gingers to grow include the Kahili, Yellow and red gingers. Lehua- These pom-poms can be fiery red, or golden yellow, but varieties with vivid magenta and even greenish do exist as well! Royal Poinciana - brought to Hawaii by the botanist Dr. Hillebrand in 1855. This tree remains a popular ornamental today and is widely cultivated. Orchids - Hawaiian orchids are available in a huge range of dazzling colors. You're most likely to spot them in the popular and well-known purple and white leis. The orchid symbolized refinement, beauty, and luxury. Poinsettias - Sometimes called the “Christmas Star,” poinsettia grow wild on hillsides throughout Hawaii. As winter comes shortened days on the islands cause the poinsettia leaves to turn flaming red, indicating that Christmas will soon be here. Thomas Dexter Press 1934-1977 West Nyack, NY. 97827-C dated 1971 : Thomas A. Dexter opened his first printshop in Park Ridge, NJ in 1920. He moved to Pearl River, NY eight years later, and by the 1930’s he was producing postcards, mostly linens but also black & white and hand colored cards covering a wide variety of subjects. Although an early pioneer of natural color images, the firms output seems to have only turned exclusively to photochromes after they moved to West Nyack, NY around 1952 when their old shop grew too small. Most of the photochromes printed by Dexter Press bore the words Genuine Natural Color. Please review the photos carefully for condition and detail. Normal wear associated with an old postcard have creases, corner bumps, ink on the front etc.
