Produced from 1940 to 1945, 10,939 built. The A6M had technical superiority over Allied aircraft until early 1942, when American formations began to arm themselves with Lightnings, which could dictate the terms of the fight, using their superior performance at high altitudes.In 1943, Allied fighters surpassed the A6M in terms of firepower, armor, and speed, and closed the gap in maneuverability.
