MERIDEN KNIFE CO. Whittler Pocketknife, Very Vintage, Rehabbed to Usable

Description: According to Levine's Guide to Pocketknives And Their Values, Third Edition, the Meriden Knife Company was a contract pocketknife brand-marketer that had been a division of Meriden Britannia Corporation in Meriden, Connecticut USA. The corporation was a very large manufacturer of kitchen and dinner cutlery. A major customer of theirs was Landers, Frary and Clark Hardware Company in New Britain, CT. I haven't yet found any on the knife company as an independent manufacturer; apparently pocketknives was not a huge profit center for the corporation, which went defunct in 1967 per Wikipedia. Still, the pocketknives were quality made, in accordance with the company's fine silverware standards. This knife was made of Britannia steel, a formula that was used for the corporation's main product. Brass frame is solid and square, nickel-steel bolsters are firmly fixed; cavity is clean. Springs are intact giving loud talk and disciplined walk, no wobbling blades. From the back you can see that the main blade rides on BOTH tension-springs in true "whittler" style, giving the main blade added strength to cut bits of wood during a carving. Blade stub has bee ground down for safety. Main has had a burr removed where blades had previously clashed when closed. Handles are jigged-bone. Fine materials and careful assembly are obviously present. This centurion should be kept with care for its next hundred years. Mailing only to USA-48. Postage is usually between $5.00 and $6.26. Buyer pays $4.00, I will pay the rest. Please see my other knives and save postage. I am liquidating my entire collection; please keep me in your favorite sellers, watching for Old Bryan's Old Knives or the seller name below. >>>This ad revised 7/4/2024 to add mailing policy. ---Bryan>>>This ad revised 7/4/2024 to answer question submitted by watcher: New message from: bigsex22 (462)"Good snap chip or crack" >>>Fairly good snap. No blade wobble. Handles have no cracks or chips. ---Bryan"Is missing small blade" Yes, it is missing a detail (small) blade at the same end as the one shown. It had been broken off before I got the knife. I ground the stub flat to avoid injury. --Bryan
