Description: Open 20 x 28 x 5". Closed 20 x 14 x 2.5". Original pieces include 15 chips for each side for backgammon, two conventional dice, one 'doubling cube' dice, two leather dice cups, full set of chess pieces for both sides, two woven burlap satchels, one each for the backgammon pieces and for the chess pieces, - each marked accordingly. The inlaid colors are subdued, understated and yet bold, simultaneously, and the beautiful wood is in near perfect condition, hand crafted, with the finish and hardware reflecting the highest level of quality, - conveying perfection in its simplicity and design. The fine preservation and condition of this heirloom set, now close to 150 years old, cannot be understated. The only visible damage is to one of the lighter colored wood backgammon chips, which can be properly restored or replicated. This set was one of the most unique physical possessions of my grandmother, who was born in Aleppo, Syria in 1901 and passed away in 1988. During her childhood years, she was educated in Paris, and had acquired this set at that time, prior to arriving in the United States via Ellis Island in 1919. Although my grandparents owned this set for close to eighty years, and my father and I have since, it had and has rarely been played on. We played on any of her many other sets, while this beautiful set was always stored away safely and securely, by her, then by my father, and finally by me for the past 35 years. This gorgeous set will be shipped professionally packaged, and fully insured, Seller is happy to address any questions, concerns or comments about this offering, and thanks you for your interest. This product is also eligible for both international and expedited shipping.
