Published since 1974, this new issue celebrates the 50th anniversary of “Maelstrom,” with front and back covers by long-time Shadow artist, Michael Wm Kaluta. The issue consists of 56 pages, measures 8.5” x 7”, and features art and articles about a wide variety of comics, comic strips, films, fanzines, comics art, and other items – including a listing of more than 200 comic book industry people who served in the military. The listing includes their name, branch of service, and, if known, their years served, military job specialty, and locations where they were stationed. Also featured is an article discussing the secrets of Wallace Wood’s brushwork, based on discussions with his one-time assistant, Larry Hama; an article sharing six pieces of late 1970s correspondence with Wallace Wood; an article about Harvey Kurtzman’s WW II cartoons published in “Yank, the Army Weekly,” and much, much more!
