Description: Louisville Stoneware Bachelor Button Cornflower 3 Qt Covered Casserole 11 Inches Diameter Originally called Cornflower, what’s now known as one of the most popular patterns "Bachelor Button" was created during John B. Taylor’s tenure at Stoneware, by artist Edith Ellis. This hand-painted pattern is evocative of a glorious summer meadow, with its bright blue blossoms and long green stems, Bachelor Button is abloom with beautiful possibilities for the table and home. According to history, Mamie Eisenhower had this pattern as her every day dishes in the White House. A casserole, French word for saucepan, is a large, deep dish used both in the oven and as a serving vessel. This design is a must-have for any cook as it bakes evenly and retains heat exceptionally well, keeping your meal warm long after it’s removed from the oven. Crafted from high-quality stoneware, this dish is both durable and stylish. The rim of the dish is made with a slight upturned edge to hold the lid securely in place. The built-in handles are good for gripping, but you’ll need a tea towel or pot holders. The lid has a well-crafted knob. The 3 Quart Round is ideal for serving sides to eight people and a main dish to six.The 11 inch round dish is perfect for baking and serving all kinds of dishes, from casseroles to pot pies. The green and blue design is painted on by hand, making each piece unique. There is a bit of a smudge on one of the flowers made during painting. Please see last photo for condition. The product line, Bachelor Button, is an original art pottery production style that uses traditional pottery techniques to create stunning pieces that are both functional and decorative. The backstamp indicates that this casserole is an original and handmade piece from Louisville Stoneware made in the 1970s-1980s.
