It's sturdy, and holds ontothe books themselves really well, in fact I have to shake it to remove any of the volumes.Paperback(s) - Front: All front covers show wear, but are intact, see images above for more details.Paperback(s) - Back: All back covers show wear, but are still sturdy, and for their age -- look good.Paperback(s) - Spine: All spines have some creasing, and some slight staining.Pages & Binding: All three books have clean, but yellowed pages, there are no missing pages as far as I can tell.These have been read before, and have sat in storage for literal decades when not displayed. The binding is at best stable, but there are some weak points; Fellowship has some almost loose, but not separated front few pages; they're still intact, just handle with care.Misc.: This set is definition vintage, it's not really a reading copy, but it is a very handsome collector's item.
