Description: Listed Japanese-American Artist Chuzo Tamotzu* Singed, on lower left, this Delightful and Intriguing Still Life with Cats. It is an Original Oil on Canvas, mounted to a board, circa, 1950's. It depicts a fascinating scene, a typical still life - flowers in vase, in front of a window, with three cats. Looking closely we notice the broken wall and window (bombed out? Hiroshima?) and several interesting things near the vase. Fascinating mid 20th C. artwork.3 3/4" Wide, 3" Deep, Ornately Carved, scoop wood moulding with an antiqued, French Provincial, finish is NOT included in this listing. It appears to be original to the piece but has several areas of lost decoration and scrapes. We are willing to ship both for approx. $250.00, due to its size, depending on location.Canvas measures 28 X 40 1/2 and is Very Good Vintage condition.Outside measure of the frame is 34 X 46 and is in Fair Vintage condition w/ damage.Please carefully examine all images for condition. You never know the gems you will find! *Chuzo Tamotzu (1888-1975) was a self-taught painter who lived in New York City before settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1948. Tamotzu moved to New York in 1920 to pursue his art career and resided there for twenty one years. He mastered the art techniques of Japanese Sumi ink, pastel chalk, oils, and tempura. Tamotzu continued his studies and began to gain reputation. He exhibited his work in Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Society of Independent Artists, and The American Contemporary Artists' Gallery. From 1950 to 1959, The Museum of New Mexico held annual exhibitions of his art. As a member of Artists' Equity Association, he contributed into passing a legislation for the formation of the New Mexico Arts Commission. No International Shipping.
