Description: Licence Renewed, first edition of Ian Fleming's James Bond written by Fleming's successor John Gardner, and by the original publishers Jonathan Cape and Hodder & Stoughton (NOT the later and much more common Guild and Book Club editions). Hardback, first edition second impression, same year as first impression, with dust jacket based on a painting by Richard Chopping, who designed most of the Ian Fleming Bond books. Book in nice condition, unmarked boards, clean pages, usual very faint toning to edges. Very good original jacket, clean and bright, no tears/splits, just a couple of small rub-marks. Gardner was appointed by Glidrose, (owners of the copyright) to continue Ian Fleming's Bond novels and Licence Renewed is the first of 16 that he wrote. (As a journalist, I met and interviewed John Gardner soon after this book was published and I recall him telling me he wanted to stay true to the Bond character, but also develop it.) The reviews suggest he did: 'Just as enjoyable as the originals.' - London Evening Standard; The first editions of Gardner's series of compellingly-written Bond novels are increasing appreciated and collected, regarded as an important part of the Bond dynasty. This is a very nice all original UK first edition. Postage: UK £3.90, International Tracked £28.
