Description: I have for sale a circa 1862 George Washington ten cent United States encased postage stamp issued by the John. Gault. John Gault was an American entrepreneur & inventor who created the encased postage stamp. He received a patent for the encased postage from the U.S. government on August 12, 1862. The encased postage stamps were used as currency for small obligations. This stamp is encased in brass, it is one inch in diameter and in circulated condition, see photos. It does have a dark spot below the right eye. The mica is complete. On the reverse it is stamped PAT AUG 12, 1862 and J. GAULT.
