JABO Premium Transparent Marble Collector Series: Radioactive Baby Blue w/Mica

There were two runs on this day: one was opaque and one was transparent. There is a chance this transparent run might have been a tank wash for the opaque run. The tank wash run is just that...it's clears out the remaining molten glass from the kiln to make way for a new run with completely different glass color designs. In any case, this marble has some wild characteristics and is a real interesting stunner. This is one of those JABO marbles that should be in every serious collectors keeper vault. They are rare and hard to find. Most likely these will not be sold on eBay very often if at all, so let's get into some of the details. The beautiful shades of blue on this particular marble include teal, baby blue, and sky blue. You will also find some olive green base glass as well. These swirls on the outside of the marble are clearly visible and beautiful with a couple of broad flames. However, this marble also has multiple windows which allow viewing the internal structure of the marble. Internal to the windows you will find sparkling material is not aventurine, but it is mica. Micas are a group of silicate minerals whose outstanding physical characteristic is that individual mica crystals can easily be split into extremely thin elastic plates giving the marble various reflective sites for a sparkling effect. This is quite a special marble indeed and you will enjoy it for a long time should you decide to make it one of your keepers. Another killer feature of this JABO Premium Transparent is the UV reactive base glass. When you hit this little baby with a UV flashlight, it explodes with green glow just as shown in the photos. This type of glass is called Fluorescent. FYI...Fluorescence is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. It is a form of luminescence. In most cases, the emitted light has a longer wavelength, and therefore a lower photon energy, than the absorbed radiation...in case you are curious... :-) I take high resolution pictures with my Canon Rebel DSLR camera with built in flash to show as much detail as possible. I rotate the marble from all angles so you can see exactly what you are getting. This marble was made on the 3/4" marble machine and it measures a healthy 0.752" in diameter with a pair of electronic calipers.
