Description: Important Pair of 18th Century Meissen Porcelain Potpourri Urns, circa 1780 For the sophisticated collector... Extremely rare and hard to find pair of large, lidded potpourri urns First rate and of the highest manufacturing quality, from the Meissen factory. Produced during the Marcolini Period, a short period of time, when Count Camillo Marcolini became director of the company from 1774-1814. With the underglazed blue crossed swords, and an asterix, indicating that these were done during the Marcolini period. Each urn with an exquisite hand painted scene with birds on their fronts, and a bouquet of flowers on their backs, each image surrounded by wonderful and very fine applied flowers and fruits. The sides of each urn with a spray, and to the bases are applied Putti, each one holding a variety of fruits, flowers, and one with a basket. Made to be a pair and so wonderful to find such rare urns to have remained together after all this time Each urn has retained its original matching lid, both with a large dome top and a finial of a spray of an array of flowers. These large potpourri urns measure 14" tall and 9" wide. Condition is Overall Very Good - the seasoned collector understands that these are almost 250 years old, and as such there will be appropriate signs of aging and wear, such as chips and losses to some of the floral decoration, some losses to the gold gilding, a missing hand of one of the Putto, and professional restoration to one of the lids (although very well done). However, so much remains intact - most of the ORIGINAL gold gilding remains with no poorly done gilding restoration as seen with many 18th and 19th century Meissen; plenty of the very fine floral and fruit decoration still intact, especially some of the larger flowers; all fruits appear fully intact; 3 of the 4 Putti fully intact, the bird and floral hand painted scenes on the front and back remain fully intact Most importantly, these 250 year old potpourri urns display so majestically - the photos simply do not do these pieces justice... Simply remarkable, I am so very sad to see these go, but I know that their new owner will be proud to display one of the most sought after pieces of antique porcelain. These highly coveted Marcolini Period Meissen urns will be your crowning achievement, a trophy to complete your finest of collections. *All offers will be considered, and we are more than happy to work with a serious collector on acquiring these magnificent pieces. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, I will be happy to provide as much information as possible. We also have another Meissen listing for a very rare pair of substantial figures from the early 19th century! Thank you for looking.
