Description: HO Scale V&TRR JW Bowker 2-4-0 Steam Locomotive & Tender - Restored #1 Two years ago, my father passed and I received the remnants of his HO Scale train collection, consisting of a diesel locomotive, several switchers, a beat-up steam locomotive and a collection of track and some freight cars. From that collection I found one locomotive, a Virginia & Truckee Railroad Genoa 4-4-0 which required repairs and restoration, and it showed me that these trains can be repaired, refurbished, and restored to operational condition for many more years of enjoyment by model railroad enthusiasts...without having to pay hundreds of dollars for the newer models. Since then, I have searched for damaged, non-functional steam locomotives of the 2-4-0 and 4-4-0 configurations to repair and restore. In this way, I honor my father and attempt to pass on his love for model railroading to others who search for these vintage locomotives. What I offer are locomotives, refurbished, and cleaned, reclaimed from years of disuse and restored to run the tracks once again. Each locomotive is unique and detailed in the efforts made to restore them. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad JW Bowker is a 2-4-0 design released by Rivarossi. This version is a popular design for its simplicity, but it comes in two standards. The simplest version is less detailed and has plastic components, while the more desirable version has metal components including the air-brake canisters, as well as the domes atop the boiler. The version you are receiving is the more desirable version with metal components. Here are some of the details of this locomotive / tender set:The locomotive was disassembled to clean and buff out the metal pieces. Dirt, dust and caked debris were removed prior to being put back together.Front pilot was found to be mostly intact, with one vein on the left side missing, and two others cracked. However, the main frame was intact.All metal pieces were tarnished and required buffing to restore their original shine: air-brake canisters, metal railings running along the boiler, domes atop the boiler, axles for all wheels.The body of the locomotive and tender car were cleaned with water and Q-tips to remove dirt and dust and the interior of the Engineering cabin was cleaned out.Drive shaft was missing and replaced with a new one.Metal gear was lubricated to aide movement.Steps below the Engineering cabin are intact on both sides.Steps on the rear of the tender car are intact on both sides.Hook and horn coupler present on tender car.All screws tightened and secured prior to testing.All axles were buffed to improve electrical contact when powered up.(See video) When powered up, locomotive immediately responds well in forward and reverse without hesitation.Although not new, this locomotive is in excellent condition and would be a worthy addition to anyone's collection.
