Highwaymen of Florida ORIGINAL Vintage Painting JAMES GIBSON Oil on Board FRAMED

Description: This fabulous original Highwaymen of Florida painting features a single palm tree hovering on the edge of a moonlit beach. The medium is oil on Upson board, mounted in a wood frame. It is signed "James Gibson", one of the original 26 Highwaymen of Florida. James Gibson was born in the small city of Moore Haven, Florida in 1938. Gibson was one of the earliest of the original Highwaymen artists and possibly the most prolific, consistently painting for over 50 years. His style was simple, and wildly colorful. I purchased this piece from a dealer in central Florida for an endowment project, but found another Gibson that I like better, so I am selling this one for a bargain price.The gorgeous coastal scene is beautifully executed in shades of turquoise, aqua green, cerulean, chartreuse, ivory, pale yellow, and taupe. The painting was skillfully created using a brush and palette knife. I don't know the exact age of this Highwaymen piece, but would estimate it's one of the earlier pieces from the 1970's: the frame appears to be handmade and rustic, consistent with the earlier Highwaymen pieces. The painting was created on Upson board that has a ragged edge, likely roughly cut with a knife or box cutter - earlier pieces were created with this material because it was easier to cut into multiple pieces. The signature is etched (as opposed to painted) on the piece. The dimensions are 26 3/4 inches x 15 inches (framed) and 24 inches x 12 inches unframed. The picture itself is in very good condition, with no notable stains, tears, scrapes or holes. The frame is rustic and has normal wear, but no significant gouges, splintering, or cracking. The backing of the picture has age-related dings and some depressions where it has been adjusted, but is secure in the frame. The hanging bracket and wire are intact and sturdy.
