Description: EXCEPTIONAL ANTIQUE FRENCH MARINE SEASCAPE IMPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS BY REVERED FRENCH PAINTER HENRY MALFROY SAVIGNY. (French 1895-1944). THIS WORK DEPICTS FRENCH BOATS CAPTURED IN THE ETHEREAL BEAUTY OF THE OPEN REFLECTIVE SEA THROUGH AN IMPRESSIONIST LENS. THE PAINTER'S STROKES ARE FLUID AND TEXTURED, CREATING A LUMINOUS INTERPLAY OF SOFT BLUES AND GREENS. IN THE DISTANCE, A HAZY LANDMASS ANCHORS THE COMPOSITION, ITS MUTED TONES SUGGESTING A TRANQUIL COASTLINE OR DISTANT HARBOR. THE SCENE RADIATES CALM AND SIMPLICITY, DRAWING THE VIEWER INTO ITS TRANQUIL MARITIME WORLD. SIMPLY AMAZING. SIGNED BY HENRY MALFROY SAVIGNY. IT DATES AROUND THE 1920s. THERE’S AN OLD FRENCH LABEL ATTACHED TO THE STRETCHER. GOOD OVERALL CONDITION. THERE’S WEAR TO THE FRAME AS SHOWN. France Died: 1944 Name variants: Henry Malfroy- Savigny, Henri Savigny Henry MALFROY (1895-1944) He also used the pseudonym Savigny. MALFROY Henri or MALFROY-SAVIGNY Painter of landscapes and marines. Post-Impressionist. Ecole Provençale. Born on 15 January 1895 in Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône). Death in 1944. French School. He was apprenticed at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris to his father Charles Malfroy, with whom he was often confused. He exhibited regularly in Paris, the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934. Adopting a technique close to Impressionism, he painted the coasts and ports of the Bouches-du-Rhône (Sausset les Pins, Martigues, Cassis) and the Var, but also landscapes of Paris and the banks of the Seine. Installed in Martigues, he broadened his touch, en lightened his compositions, approaching the landscapes ofProvence, like Félix Ziem. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics. A member of the French Resistance during the Second World War, Malfroy was arrested and died in Buchenwald concentration camp. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Liberation.
