Handcarved Hickory Hammers for Hammered Dulcimer

Description: This auction is for a single pair of Handcarved Hickory dulcimer hammers. They were crafted shortly after the recent Christmas holiday from a single split piece of Hickory wood left over from another project. The Hickory wood was harvested from my Brother-in-law's land in Poca, W. Virginia in 2023. These Hickory hammers are 8 1/4" long and weigh 0.7 ounces. They are examples of traditional wajutipe78 arched hammers that resemble the first pair I made back in 1980. These unique hammers will create a vibrant, bold sound. Hickory is bit heavier than most hardwoods, so it bounces very well. They are well balanced for ease of use, plus my distinct 3D grips allow them to be played while holding them lightly. Pulling the third (ring) finger upward on the prominent heel will help drive the head down on the strings, so the wrist and forearm need not rise very high. Less fatigue overall even when playing long and loud! All hammers I carve work well, are comfortable to use, easy to hold and will provide hours and hours of fun. For buyers that use leather pads to dampen sound, I always provide several pair of leathers of various thickness to glue on whenever the owner finds the need to do so.
