For sale is the elusive Hamilton Otis wristwatch with a monogrammed 14k gold filled case, white dial and the 980 movement: a rare holy grail of a vintage watch that had a limited run between 1938 and 1940 or 1941. Production likely ended due to global impacts of World War II. The original patent for this case was granted to Jaeger LeCoultre for their Reverso watch in 1933 and Hamilton paid a royalty of 60 cents per case to JLC to use their patented case. The patent number is 1,930,416 - stamped right on the inside of the case. Watch appears to be running and keeping time well. Included is a period correct Hamilton display box. Serial Number: G149567Case Composition: 14k Gold FilledCase Size: 24mm without the crownUsed band size: 7 to 9 inches with a 17mm wide bandLug size appears to be around 17.5mm Condition: The reverso function works well and everything seems tight including the case back and winding crown. Movement appears to be in excellent condition. Band is very worn and not original. There is age and wear on the case and a deeper scratch on the case back (see photos) and smaller scratches and wear to the gold plating and some scratches to the crystal. Dial has age but no major damage and looks good. I would typically buff out the crystal with poly watch but will be leaving this one as is. There appear to be over a dozen service markings inside the case back. That said: we don't have receipts of records and this watch may need additional servicing for precise timekeeping and is sold as is. There is a long history of myths of lawsuits about this watch but it seems the truth has been revealed by recently uncovered documents.
