Description: This item is a Funaro & Camerlengo HO scale resin kit of a Texas & New Orleans G-50-17 class 41' 6" composite side war emergency design gondola. This is F&C kit 6263. This model represents cars from the G-50-17 series 42450-42649 (200 cars built by Pressed Steel Car in 1944). This class was built during World War 2 when steel was in short supply. These cars used wood and steel composite sides to save steel for the war effort. This led to these carts being referred to as "War Emergency Gons". This class is unique in the use of an early style dreadnaught end instead of the reverse dreadnaught used by the G-50-19 class and the improved dreadnaught used by the G-50-21 and G-50-24 class. This model represents the first class (G-50-17) of what would eventually include classes G-50-19, G-50-21 and G-50-24. These later classes, built from 1946-1951 used more modern end designs and different trucks and hand brakes, but were otherwise near identical. This early class had Scullin AAR trucks and Klasing hand brakes. The model consists of flat resin pieces for the ends, sides, floor and underbody. Plastic brake pieces and metal grabs fill out the kit. You must add couplers, weight and nice heavy trucks. T&NO decals are provided.Some of these cars of this early design survived into the 1960s.This car may need some added weight to track well. Light weathering is also recommended.
