Size:Overall: 8-1/8" W x 10-1/8" LPrint: 6-1/2" L x 4-3/8" W When we pulled off the back, we were able to find a write-up about this Black Rhino: Hook-Lipped RhinocerosDiceros bicornis Also known as the 'black rhinoceros'. It has a barrel-shaped body and long head with two horns on the snout. The horns are formed by tubular filament hair-like outgrowths and the ears are small and rounded. The upper lip is pointed and and prehensile. The color is dark grey but is sometimes similar to the ground color of the vicinity in which it occurs. It is distinguished from the Square-lipped Rhinoceros by the pointed upper lip, the shorter head and smaller build and lack the humps above the shoulders. When walking it usually holds its head higher than does Square-lipped (or white) Rhinoceros. A full ground bull can weigh up to 1,360 kg (2,992 lbs) with a shoulder height of 160 cm (63 inches). The rhinoceros has poor eyesight but an acute sense of smell and hearing. This species is a browser and is known to eat in excess of 200 different types of plants. Females calve at intervals of about 4 years, and have only one young. When cows are about to give birth, they seek isolation and tend to drive their previous offspring away. Newborn calves are able to stand within 10 minutes after birth and follow their mothers closely whenever she moves. In the white rhinoceros, the calf trots ahead of the cow. Their life expectancy is +/- 40 years. Sadly they are poached for their horns, which are used for dagger handles and as an aphrodisiac. It has been scientifically proven that the horns have no such properties. Fast shipping from Orlando.
