Description: Springtime wildflower poppies populate the banks of a Canadian lake overseen by snow capped majestic mountains. A well executed plein air chalk pastel painting by Wride. For many years it was thought these pastels were by listed artist Maisie Wride (1892 - 1973). However, recent evidence now suggests the artist was John Wride of Winnipeg. Regardless, the artist was extremely talented and had great command of the pastel medium. While Wride is well known for plein air mountain and lake scenes, it is very rare for the inclusion of flowers in the image. Image size is approximately 7.25" by 9.25". Single mint green mat nicely accents the outdoor scene. Dimensions, as framed, are approximately 12.50 inches by 14.50 inches. The artist signed this painting twice, lower bottom right, once in black pastels and also in orange. Likely painted in the 50s or 60s. The painting has not been examined out of its frame. It appears there is some foxing / mold spores at the top of the image. Also some minor spotting on the green mat. Original backing paper still intact.
