Description: This outfit consists of a bustle style jacket, skirt, a cape, and a coordinating hat, all made for a wedding in 1891. The jacket has plush velvet trim, including a tiny set of plush-covered buttons at the front closure and at the wrists, four button-type embellishments at the back of the bustle area. There is also a plush velvet binding around the front and bottom edge. It's stayed and lined with brown cotton, and fastens with hooks and eyes. The cape is also lined with brown cotton, as a delightful brown ribbon fastener at the waist, the "pouffs" at the shoulders reinforced with pieces of stiffened cheesecloth that have been sewn in. It fastens with two hooks and eyes. The collar can be worn up or down, when worn turned down the plush velvet side shows, when worn up, the matching brown wool fabric is visible.I have shown it worn both ways in the photos. The skirt is also lined with brown cotton, has a heavy, reinforced hem, and a wool floor protector. It's flat in front, with box pleating in back. It also has It fastens in back with a hook and eye. The skirt also has triangular shaped "buttons", along with false buttonholes set at an angle, a hint of the asymmetrical designs of the Edwardian era to come. The hat has a metallic lace embellishment, a satin stripe ribbon, the main fabric a matching brown silk. The feathers are held on by a metal wire, reinforced with a safety pin. The lining is a dark brown polished cotton with a drawstring center. No mothing, shredding or splitting to the fine wool used in the 3 pieces, I don't see any fading. The plush on the bodice is not faded or worn, any variation in color is from the lighting. There is some slight wear to the buttons on the skirt. The accompanying note states that the dress, cape and hat were worn for a wedding on October 7, 1891.No name of the bride is givenThe bodice measures 30 1/2", 22" around at the waist, it's 11 /2" between the shoulder seams in back. The cape is 25 3/8" long in back, with a 10 3/8" shoulder span in back. The skirt waist is 25 1/2" at it's widest, if the second hook is used, it's 23 3/4". I have added two photos to illustrate. The skirt is 41 3/4" long. Very good condition. The underarms each have very slight fading, with a hole the size of an apple seed at one.The skirt has a 3/4" tear, this is mostly camouflaged by the pleats.
