Dave Rhodes is considered one of the premier American carvers of shorebirds, especially those of the East Coast of the US. He lived in Absecon, NJ for most of his life. Dave began carving mostly decoys but diversified into shorebirds. He eventually became proficient enough to become a judge of carving competitions. His works have been exhibited at the Tuckerton Decoy Show (Tuckerton, NJ), The Great South Bay Waterfowlers event (Long Island, NY), The Ward Foundation of Ocean City and Salsbury, MD, The Wetlands Institute (Stone Harbor, NJ), and the Midwest Decoy Collectors Show (St. Charles, IL) to name a few. He was named Artist of the Year in 2007 by the Noyes Museum of Oceanville, NJ and Carber of the Year in 2004 by the NJ Decoy Collectors Association. He was Artist in Residence at the Tuckerton, NJ Seaport Museum and has been mentioned in several books. Many of Dave’s carvings can be seen exhibited in the Refuge Waterfowl Museum in Chincoteague, VA.
