Description: A superb cased pair of fully cast silver gilt spoons, made for the Worshipful Company of Salters, and bearing their coat of arms on both the spoons & on the front of the case. The Worshipful Company of Salters is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London, 9th in order of precedence. The Company originated as the Guild of Corpus Christi, which was granted a Royal Charter of incorporation in 1394. The spoon bear the motto 'Sal Sapit Omnia', meaning Salt savours all, and this motto is also twisted around the stem of each spoon. Wonderful quality and gloriously heavy gauge of silver. The spoons are in excellent condition, hardly touched condition, bearing matching crisp and clear hallmarks for London 1938, and were made by the highly acclaimed and very prestigious London silversmiths & jewellers D & J Welby. The case whilst also in excellent condition, requires replacement hinges, something a good restorer could easily do. Some very minor internal silk damage was noted also. Weight 101g / 3.24 tr oz., spoons measuring 14.7cm long each.
