CLASSIC GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN .35 GRAM AUSTRALIAN GOLD WITH QUARTZ

Description: GOLD & QUARTZ from QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: 5.5 Grains (Troy) - .35 Grams Size: 10.5X5.6X5.7 mm Here's a chunk of white quartz with VG, visible gold. It's small, so check my photos, weight, and measurement for an accurate scale. Ore hails from the Gympie-Eldorado Mine. The oro is high in purity and comes from a historic hard rock mine in Queensland, Australia. Embryonic gold is often associated with silicon dioxide (quartz). As they cool down from a super-heated, hydrothermal solution, each mineral crystallizes in sequence. Often, other minerals lithify inside the quartz along with gold. All my specimens show naturally-occurring gold and are authentic gold nuggets or gold matrix specimens. U.S. SHIPPING $4.00 (includes USPS tracking to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $16.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item). I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but never found a solitary piece with visible gold in it. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallize in sequence to form veins of gold-bearing quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. THE WORLD OF GOLD QUARTZ Welcome to the world of natural gold quartz. For those unfamiliar with this product, GQ is, essentially, gold ore, very high-grade gold ore found in the earth's outer mantle. When geological conditions are right, metallic gold, along with quartz, crystallizes inside fissure-type veins and various other rock formations. It was once thought most precious metal deposits formed beneath the ocean, but in more recent times, geologists made a surprising discovery. Geothermal hot springs well-above sea level were found to have been producing ore bodies of tremendous size all along. Gold recovered from these types of lodes is micron in size, so placer deposits, except as paleo-lode-placers, aren't typically associated with them. Where prominent quartz fissure-type veins exist in situ, erosion breaks down richer portions off these quartz ledges. Gold is thus released into the environment where it begins it's journey downhill. Eventually, gold makes it's way into watersheds and, from there, continues it's downward journey. Eventually, gold nuggets, gold flakes, flour, and colloidial gold becomes 'free gold' or placer, the kind recovered by the 49ers. Being basically soft and malleable, larger pieces of gold take on new shapes and added character. Vein filling which retains the host matrix rock (gangue) and harbors metalliferous gold can become one of the earth's more highly-prized gemstones. The ideal criteria for this gemstone type are hardness, color, and richness. The best grades of gem rock are very hard, unbrecciated, and contain minimal cracks or fissures. Cryptocrystalline quartz/gold, where it exists, is highly-prized by gemologists/lapidaries/jewelers/and collectors. Overall mineral compositions and characteristics of gold-bearing stone found in fissure veins (and larger ore bodies) vary from one deposit to the next. This results in the formation of differently-colored matrix (host rock). The metallic mineral, gold, occurs in a variety of geological formations. Nevada state, in particular, has become a gold-mining juggernaut. In modern-day mining operations, entire mountains are blasted down, transported and piled into heaps. Ore is then soaked with cyanide solution, a process which leaches precious metal from the rock. Other ore types require a variety of processes for recovering gold. A century ago, this type of mining was unknown. It was more likely some lone-burro prospector might have bean to sink a vertical shaft into some quartz outcropping using hand tools alone. Do you have any idea how difficult this primitive method would be?!! Mucked and then hauled from the mine-shaft, ore had to be crushed to recover the gold locked up inside it. Losses were quite high compared with today's Au extraction technologies. That old propector might have resorted to using 'dolly pot' and only crushed up what could be readily identified as high-grade. In early times, arrastras were another crushing device used for pulverizing and removing gold from ore. Stamp mills of all sizes eventually followed. These 'widow-makers' increased production by allowing substantially-more ore to be crushed and milled. Many mining boom towns were branded 'widow-makers'. That's because silica dust inhaled by humans over a prolonged period of time is known to be lethal. Try to imagine clouds of finely-powdered silica enveloping some town day and night. An old time prospector's first inkling of a lode probably would have been locating a quartz ledge. A rich placer deposit below it, one which held coarse gold along with gangue (waste rock) would provide even stronger evidence that a vein system was productive. At one time, quartz veins were notorious producers of gold. Many fissure-type lode deposits such as the Homestake Mine in South Dakota and California's Sixteen to One Mine were followed to great depth. Ore grades rarely remain consistent throughout the life of a mine. Veins also become displaced through movement in the earth's crust. There's no shortages of reasons why deep quartz leads were become unprofitable to mine. Water seepage was another major problem encountered in many of the historic mines scattered around the western U.S. mining states Sometimes, a productive vein slips. Of course this doesn't occur overnight and it's not caused by a banana peel. Geological movement in the earth over long periods of time reshapes the internal morphology of the earth's outer crust. In-situ veins shift to unexpected positions in country rock and, in this manner, are lost to miners attempting to follow discontinuous leads. Prices for metals also fluctuate dramatically. Many factors influence the availability, production, and profitability of gold quartz mining and the end product itself. Only a scant handful of mines around the world produce gem-grade material. Even when a new high-tenor ore deposit is found, collectors and dealers are tasked with procuring something not publicly offered or made available by the mines themselves. Thanks for checking out our digs. Gold of Eldorado 8-13-17
