Description: Carn Studio Pottery, 4" Box Vase, Daisy & Bridge, 1970s, John Beusmans, Cornwall, UK This auction is for a special, vintage 4" box vase from John Beusmans of Carn Pottery, Cornwall, England dating to the 1970s, per online research.The daisy pattern on the front and the bridge design on the back, along with the scribbled designs on the sides, are raised and tactile, and colored with a moss and sage green, hand-wiped oxide wash.Colors are more subtle than photos show. Photos cannot do justice. Carn Pottery is slip-cast and kiln fired with a matte finish outside and a glossy finish inside.Measures 4" high, 2" wide and 1" deep. Weighs 6 ounces before packaging. Item is in very good pre-owned condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or surface wear to note besides possibly some minor shelf wear to the unglazed bottom. Any other irregularities would be from the handmade process and not damage of any kind.John Michael Buesmans was born about 1950 in Hampshire, England. Shortly after, his family moved to Nancledra, Penzance, Cornwall where they ran a retail pottery shop. Inspired by their profession, Buesmans prepared himself for a career in ceramics studying at the Redruth School of Art. He sold his works from his parents shop until establishing his Carn Pottery studio in 1971 at Nancledra, Penzance, Cornwall. His unique slip-cast and kiln-fired, oxide washed high-relief, and pleasantly surprising asymmetrical designs became iconic.
