Description: Up for sale is a FIRST EDITION novel about the twilight of European aristocracy set against the background of the tumultuous period between the end of World War I and the Hungarian uprising of 1957. This was the author's first published work, and it received excellent reviews. Title: Before the Glory Ended Author: Ursula Zilinsky Publisher: J. B. Lippincott Company Copyright: 1967 (by the author) STATED FIRST EDITION Hardback book with dust jacket About 8.625 inches tall by about 5.785 inches wide.Pages: 413 Author Ursula Zilinsky was born in Germany and lived in Munich to the age of 16. She attended the Ecole Internationale in Geneva, Switzerland and traveled in France and England before emigrating to the United States in 1949. She graduated from New York University. At the time When the Glory Ended appeared, she was living on Long Island with her husband and two children. Zilinsky would go on to write the following additional novels: Middle Ground, A Happy English Child, and The Long Afternoon. The following is taken from the dust jacket of When the Glory Ended: "Mrs. Zilinsky's characters and backgrounds ring absolutely true, from scenes among prewar nobility in Budapest to the Hungarian Uprising, from Vienna grand balls to Buchenwald. The author has managed to capture a segment of society, now almost extinct, in a variety of European countries. Her perception and style combine the warmth and depth of John Moore's feeling for the English with the Continental panache and understanding of the privileged classes characteristic of Nancy Mitford's novels."
