She attended the Ecole Internationale in Geneva, Switzerland and traveled in France and England before emigrating to the United States in 1949. She graduated from New York University. At the time When the Glory Ended appeared, she was living on Long Island with her husband and two children. Zilinsky would go on to write the following additional novels: Middle Ground, A Happy English Child, and The Long Afternoon.
