Description: Autograph of Brevet Brigadier General George D. Ruggles, 1866 Ruggles signes this Special Order No. 120, dated June 15, 1866, from Headquarters Department of the East, at New York City (Governors Island). This order refers to a previous order from 1865. I don’t know the contents, but it was directed to Brig. Gen. J.E. Hamblin. Hamblin began the war as an officer in the 7th New York Infantry, and adjutant of Duryea’s Zouaves. By war’s end, Hamblin was promoted to full Brigadier General, and held a brevet as Major General.George D. Ruggles, graduated from the USMA Class of 1855, and remained a career army officer for the rest of his life. He was engaged at battles at Cedar Mountain, 2nd Bull Run, Chantilly, South Mountain, and Antietam. He served as the assistant chief of staff Army of the Potomac, and adjutant general under George Meade during the battle of Hatcher’s Run. After the war he remained in the Adjt. Gen. Department with duty in the Departments of the Platte, and Dakota. He retired in 1893, with the rank of brigadier general.Bold signature, and fine conditioned document.
