Calle was the only artist allowed access to the astronaut crew of Apollo 11 and the dozens of his pen and ink sketches made that morning stand as a unique historical record of the activities of the crew in the hours before they launched to the Moon. The majority of these sketches can be seen in the book, Celebrating Apollo 11, the Artwork of Paul Calle written by Chris Calle. This limited edition print is hand signed artist Paul Calle. Paul Calle was the only artist present with the Apollo X1 crew as they prepared for and Suited Up for their historic launch to the Moon on July 16, 1969. Calle's pen and ink on the spot sketches of the "Suiting Up" are an amazing documentation of the preparation by the crew and are on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington , DC. Calle was one of the original group of artists chosen by NASA to cover the Mercury program and document in pencil and paint the beginning of the US Space Age.
