Description: FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE..... Estate find... Antique primitive portrait dating from the 18th or early 19th century, signed "T. Ritter". The technique is reverse painting on glass. This has a big flaw...... The glass that the painting is on cracked at some point, see photo. After the crack occured, a sound piece of glass was inserted in the frame, over the cracks, to prevent any losses. Additionally, some of the background paint flaked and a similar colored paper was used behind the portrait to camouflage the loss. The presentation, in the frame, measures approximately 9 inches wide, 11 inches top to bottom. Despite the flaw, it is colorful, well done and appealing. Remember, the reverse painting on glass is cracked and there is some flaking in the background. The crack is stabilized by a newer piece of glass inserted in the original frame over the damage.
