Description: This is a pair of antique very elaborate single candlesticks made from bronze with some areas gilded. Probably 19th Century and French probably. The candlesticks are made into an OAK TREE shape with foliage and leaves. Each trunk has a little SQUIRREL figurine clinging on like they're climbing up, very cute. The top leaves that are sort of drooping over have little holes at the ends which look like they would have once had some cut glass crystals dangling from themThe cast bronze is really well modelled as Oak leaves with acorns too. And the squirrels are equally as fine detail. Both gilt top wax catcher sconces simply lift out of their snug fit top. No maker's marks etc. from what I can see.The top dark bronze leaf shaped part which has the overhanging leaves with the holes in their ends has 12 leaf shapes. So if you were to put in some more cut glass danglies you would need 24 of them. They could hang with fine wire of fishing line would be good as well. Please see photographs provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition They measure approx. 11 inches tall x 6 inches wide. The base is just under 4 and half inch wide. A squirrel is 2 and a 1/2 inch long x 1 and a 1/4 inch wide. They weigh 1035 grams and 1020 grams.. so just over a KILOGRAM each.
