Description: Item DetailsNapoleon III Large And Fine French Mantel Clock, Circa 1860 Offers Welcome An exceptionally fine example of a French marble, ormolu and bronze mantel clock dating to the 19th century, circa 1860. The clock, of Louis XVI style, features a white Carrara marble base dressed with an ormolu plinth edged with a beaded rim. The base issues an elegant ormolu frame with four sides of thick bevelled glass panels. The case houses a white enamel dial featuring blue hand painted Roman numerals, alongside an outer chapter indicating minute marks and a further chapter with Arabic numerals. The dial is protected by a thick bevelled glass door encased within an ormolu beaded rim. The whole surmounted by an ormolu canopy supporting a twin handled ormolu and Carrara marble urn with foliage. The base raised on four ormolu bun feet. The twin train 8 day mechanical movement is present, striking the hours and half hours on a bell. The pendulum and winding key are present. The mechanism can be accessed via an ormolu encased bevelled glass door. The clock is in excellent and original condition retaining its original starburst pendulum which has the same serial number as the mechanism; a true testament to its originality. The clock has a clean movement and has recently been serviced. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a good colour.
