John Edgar Hoover (1895-1972) Hoover was Director of the Bureau of Investigation for 11 years and then was Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 37 years until his death in 1972. Hoover was instrumental in protecting the USA through the 20s, the 30s, the World War II years and beyond. Hoover was born in Washington D.C. and remained in the City for his entire life. He was extremely secretive and built a dossier on most everyone in the federal government.
